    • BARTONVILLE - L. George Byard, 87, of Bartonville passed away at 4:20 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
      Shirley F. Byard, 87, of Bartonville passed away at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
      George was born June 2, 1920, in Peoria, son of George F. and Louise M. Tursam Byard.
      Shirley was born July 14, 1920, in Peoria, daughter of Raymond G. and Emma J. Fragel Davidson. They married on Aug. 22, 1943, in Peoria.
      Together they have three children, Alane (Bruce) Smith of Bartonville, Alan (Patty) Byard of Bayview Gardens and Kim (Rita) Byard of Morton; six grandchildren, Joshua (Karen) Kjellberg of Chesterfield, Mo., Benjamin Smith of Bartonville, Neil Fox of Franklin, Tenn., Chris (Amber) Byard of Columbus, Ohio, and Jared and Lisa Byard of Morton; and four great-grandchildren.
      Shirley has surviving one sister, Virginia Erikson of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Katherine Davidson of Lacon; and five nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by one brother and one nephew.
      George worked as an engineer at Keystone Steel & Wire in Bartonville, retiring in 1975 as Director of Sales Engineering. He also enjoyed architectural design work, having designed several houses in the Peoria area. He attended Bradley University in Peoria, was former chairman of the Peoria Airport Authority, past president of the Oak Grove School Board and a former volunteer for West Peoria Fire Department. He was also on the Civil Air Patrol in Bartonville during World War II.
      Shirley worked as a secretary at Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria and later stayed at home with her children. She was a 1940 graduate of Dickinson College of Business in Peoria. She was also a former Peoria County Election Judge and a member of Femmes Unir in Bartonville.
      Together, George and Shirley enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Keystone Square Dance Club. They were both longtime members of Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville, where Shirley was also a member of the Miriam Circle.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville, with the Rev. Dr. Philip A. Lund officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel in Bartonville. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria.
      Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church or Bartonville Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
