    • Rodney V. Byard, 81, of Wake Forest, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at Springmoor Health Center in Raleigh.

      He was born in Columbus, Ga., the son of the late Ethel Mae Cotton Byard and William E. Byard.

      Mr. Byard served as a minister of education at Swope Park Baptist Church in Kansas City and First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He also served as assistant to the president for public relations at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest and as a Wake Forest town commissioner for 10 years.

      Mr. Byard is survived by his wife, Nancy F. Byard;
      three daughters, Rebecca B. Whitwam and her husband, Robert, of Kernersville;
      Jennifer B. Talley and her husband, Robert, of Wake Forest;
      and Amy B. Huneycutt and her husband, David, of Houston, Texas;
      a brother, William E. Byard Jr.;
      and seven grandchildren

      A memorial service is today (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m. in the Springmoor Life Care Community Auditorium, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh.

      The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson?s Research at www.michaeljfox.org, or to Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America at www.bpfna.org
      Friends may visit with the family following the service at Springmoor.
