    • "Schuyler Lake---Karl K. Byard, 78, former owner and operator of
      General Herkimer Farms, one of the largest dairy and hop farms in this area, died yesterday in Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. Born and educated in the Oakville area, he joined his brother, Jesse, in operating the farm in 1912. They joined the Holstein-Friesian Association of America in 1927. AFTER JESSE'S DEATH in 1945, James J. Byard III of Oneonta, a cousin, became Mr. Byard's partner in the farm business. Mr. Byard retired in 1959. He was a member of the Otsego County Farm Bureau and the Fly Creek Cooperative Association. Mr. Byard leaves no immediate family ... Burial will be in Schuyler Lake Cemetery. Calling hours are today." ["Daily Press" (Utica, NY)]
