Emma was a daughter of B. T. Terry and Nancy J. Ewing Terry. She married Frank Byard on 10/8/1890 in Grandin, Carter Co., MO.

Her obituary was published in the 2-23-1899 edition of The Current Local, Van Buren, MO, on the front page (used with permission):

"MRS. EMMA BYARD. Died, Thursday, Feb. 16, 1899, at 6:07 p.m. at her home in Grandin, of lung trouble. She was the wife of Frank Byard and the daughter of B. T. Terry, our country collector. She lived here in Van Buren during her girlhood days and her schoolmates and associates were appalled to learn of her death.

The tenderest of sympathy was expressed by all who knew her. We learn that she was a devoted Christian serving her Creator with earnest zeal, and feel confident she has passed the valley of the shadow of death and is now basking in the sunlight of eternity. Such is the sure reward of all who are faithful to the commands of the Divine Master.

The husband and relatives should be consoled with the idea that their loss is her eternal gain."
