      Quarter Sessions April 1869 (p.608)

      The Queen v. Joseph BYARD
      In the county gaol, Derby, brought to "the Bar" for felonously stealing, taking and carrying away on the fifth day of March, now last past, one bushel of wheat, one shovel and one fork, of the goods and chattels of Joseph Bowmer. And the said Joseph BYARD having heard the said indictment read unto him, pleads guilty thereto. This court doth order that the said Joseph BYARD be re-committed to the custody of the said James Henry Sims (keeper of the gaol) and imprisioned in the House of Correction at Derby aforesaid and kept to hard labour for the space of twelve calendar months to be computed from the time of his conviction (a previous conviction for felony been proved against him). And doth also order that the treasurer of this county doth pay to Mr. Harwood, solicitor in this presentation the sum of �12-17s-3d for the expenses of the prosecutor and his witness.
